The Pediatric Center

Our children deserve the best care we can give. At Centra, we are dedicated to providing the highest quality health care to children and their families in central and southside Virginia. Our purpose is to make each visit as stress-free as possible for parent and child. Nothing is more important than your child's health and your peace of mind.

Historically, our pediatric services have been located at Centra Virginia Baptist Hospital. But in the summer of 2011, Centra completed a major renovation project and created an eleven-bed pediatric center at Centra Lynchburg General Hospital in close proximity to the Emergency Department that sees over 18,000 children per year under the age of 17 in our community.

Features of our pediatric center:

• A center dedicated to pediatric patients featuring eleven private pediatric rooms to meet the needs of the patient, family and caregiver
• In-room sleeping accommodations for parents
• Immediate access to a pediatric hospitalist (physicians who are board-certified in pediatrics)
• An environment that provides patient- and family-centered care
• Direct admission from the Emergency Department, eliminating transfer to other areas within the hospital system
• An experienced, competent and caring pediatric staff
• A state-of-the-art security system
• Ability to provide cardiac and respiratory monitoring
• A playful and exciting center to provide comfort and support for families

Our pediatric center serves sick children from birth to their teens. We focus on family-centered care, because we recognize that when a child becomes ill and hospitalized, it affects the entire family. Our staff is part of an interdisciplinary team that works with families to deal with juvenile diabetes, asthma, sickle cell anemia, cystic fibrosis and other diagnoses.

We also offer a free meal service for parents who do not wish to leave their child. We understand that children may have fears about being in the hospital. Our pediatric nursing staff is experienced and sensitive to meeting your child's needs.

For the convenience of you and your child, and so that you don't have to travel out of town, we have established a pediatric specialty outpatient center to meet your child's special needs. These services include:

• Pediatric cardiology clinic
• Pediatric fetal echocardiography clinic
• Pediatric neurodevelopment clinic
• Pediatric allergy clinic
• Genetics clinic

Your physician or health care provider will make the necessary referrals should your child need these specialized services.
